TMRA'05 - International Workshop on Topic Map Research and Applications - provides a forum for community building in the field of Topic Map research and applications. A main objective of TMRA'05 is to chart the landscape of Topic Map research. Together we want to identify the primary open issues, who is working on what, bring together researchers and application pioneers, stimulate the systematic tackling of such issues, and foster the exchange of ideas in a non-commercial and stimulating setting. Besides the scientific track, open-space sessions are foreseen as playgrounds for visionaries.
TMRA'05 will take place in The Westin, Leipzig, Germany. TMRA'05 provides an intimate and exciting atmosphere for Topic Maps researchers and application pioneers. It is organised by the Institut für Informations-, Wissens- und Dienstleistungsmanagement, an incorporated non-profit society associated to the University of Leipzig. We are looking for papers with substantial contributions to bring the Topic Map community together. The workshop language is English.
Aims and Objectives of TMRA'05
TMRA'05 addresses the field of Topic Map research, which up until now has been done in a vital but loosely coupled community. Researchers and application pioneers from all over the world, with backgrounds in academia, business and government, contribute to the development of the emerging Topic Map technologies.
Topic Map research addresses a broad spectrum of disciplines. Some examples, from a remarkably incomplete listing, are: markup languages, data modelling, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, cognitive science, philosophy and software engineering.
A fundamental research effort within the community is the establishment of the innovative connectedness of information by meaning: to reach "seamless knowledge." While that connectedness is a research objective, the Topic Map community suffers from a hindering disconnectedness. TMRA'05 may be seen as an effort to overcome that limitation by connecting the community.
In addition to the presentation track, TMRA'05 provides slots and locations for small open-space sessions, like brainstorming sessions for research and business projects. You are highly encouraged to stage such open-space sessions!
We invite papers about Topic Map research and sophisticated applications. You should substantially contribute to one or more of the following challenges:
Connecting Topic Map Theory and Practice
Building the Topic Map research community means to bring together research from different backgrounds. How can research results developed at universities be transferred to real-life projects? How can results from practice be investigated and reused in academic research?
Charting the Research Landscape
In order to contribute to the connectedness of people and ideas in the Topic Map community, you can present your own research or present an overview about an issue in the area of Topic Map research and applications. As a result, the research community describes itself with a Topic Map.

Initiating Projects
We expect that the result of TMRA'05 - the research landscape charted during the workshop - will help to bring together people and ideas and thus aid funding of new research projects where Topic Map technologies are used.
