Holiday 2001 - Malaysia

Malaysia - Cameron Highlands

On the 2.nd day I went from Kuala Lumpur to the Cameron Highlands by bus. In the afternoon - it was time enough - I walked into the jungle and back (ca. 6 hours). I walked alone. It was very interesting to see, to feel and to smell the wood. On the left hand side you can see a bridge and a little waterfall and on the right hand side the typical form of the jungle.

There were not many signs, which show the direction. But when you found such a place, you found many such signs. It was very difficult to decide, which is the right direction.

I took part on a jungle tour next day. It was very cold (ca. 20° Celsius).
We visited also tea plantages. There grow up much tea. There are many different types of tea from the same Pflanze. The taste is very good. Our tour guide showed us the different types of tea and explained many things, which I have forgotten now, unfortunately.

We also visited a butterfly farm, where we saw butterflies, of course, and other animals.
After the tour I visited the rose farm. From there you have a great view around.

Malaysia - Penang

From the Cameron Highlands I went to Penang on the northwest coast by bus.
I looked around the city. There are many historical buildings from colonial time.
The Pic below shows chinatown as a part of Penang.

In Penang there is a botanical garden. There you can see some animals, like monkeys
and so on - if you have luck. Penang has also a very high mountain. I walked up. It
was very difficult, because the temperature was approx. 30° and the humidity was
also very high.

At the end of this walking it rained strongly. In the evening I went to Kota Barhu
at the east coast by bus and from there to Kuala Lipis in the middle of the country
which I arrived by train.

My hostel room for 30 Ringit (ca. 15 DM) without air condition.

An evening and a sunset in Penang.

Malaysia - Kuala Lipis

Kuala Lipis is a little city in the mid'lands on the border of a big national park.
The people there do not speak English very well.

My hostel for one night in Kuala Lipis (the second yellow building from left).
I want to take part on a jungle tour, but in the tourinst office the officer told me,
that I am alone in city as a tourist and when I want to have a jungle tour I must pay the
double price, because the minimum of member on such a trip is two. So I walked along
the jungle in the afternoon.

On the right hand side it is the evening in Kuala Lipis and the sunset above the jungle.
